Photos and Images I Connect With

The Rain Flower or Currant

This flower is a sign that spring is in the air. We can begin planning for warmer days, spending time outside in the sun, start gathering medicines, and prepare for the summer.

The Welcoming of Winter

I am often stopping on hikes or walks to take photos of nature around me. The frost was so heavy a few weeks ago while we were having a first outside. We often cook on the fire and sit mesmerized by the flames and warmth. This little leaf caught my eye with the white frost gently outlining the edges and bringing more depth to the otherwise mostly flat leaf.

My grandmother used to use bundles of cedar, salal and other plants as smudges to cleans the mind, spirit, body and soul. These little tiny leaves hold more healing properties than most understand.

The Magic of Ferns

We have used ferns as medicine, to soften the earth and to decorate cedar woven storage containers. Studying this little fern up close revealed in intricacy of how it grows.

Even Messy Feathers Can be Beautiful

When creating a website, print material, looking for photos that I connect with it is almost impossible to find images that are linked to who I am and the culture I am from.

I’ve written reports, created educational documents, worked on websites although I’m self taught and am not great at it, I struggled to find content and images that use plants, landscapes, animals, people that are relevant to where I am and the world that surrounds me.

First Flowers of Spring

I love these little flowers that tell us spring is coming soon. Taken out of it natural environment and capturing the gentle curves this snow drop is an inspiration for designing a print.

The Plants We Know

When creating a website, print material, looking for photos that I connect with it is almost impossible to find images that are linked to who I am and the culture I am from. Even though I am not a photographer I take my own photos for reference and to use in reports or books.

The Home of the Ocean

When creating a print with a landscape or image that depict the world around us so we can see images that we relate to and already have a relationship with.

Inspired by Something Different

Blue fish color pallet inspiration. I’ve been learning how to fish the past four years and listening to stories from my mom who grew up on the old fishing boats has given me a whole new experiences to be inspired by.
